CHS Show Rules


  • Preloading We will be preloading in all classes. This means you will enter the ring while the horse on course is half way through completing it’s course. Do not travel in the path or interrupt the horse that is on course. Please do not start your course until the previous horse is leaving the ring.  The gate person will send you in at the correct time.
  • Sign Ups Sign Up for your classes at the end of Friday and Saturday to help our show run smoothly. Please sign up (including your number) in the order you would like to show in.
  • Open Card There will be open cards for classes at the same height.
  • Open Divisions Both Open and Beginner riders may enter this division.  Open round must be completed before beginner class.
  • Beginner Division Open to riders who are in their first two years of showing in the hunter/jumper discipline.  This is based on the rider not the horse.
  • Coaching in the Ring Coaches will be allowed in the ring and rider will be judged as normal in classes groundrail - 2’3 hunters as well as 2’6 & pony to 3’ jumpers.
  • Leadline Leadline is allowed in groundrail and xrail classes.
  • Walk TrotWalk Trot class is intended for riders who do not canter.
  • Wait Times There will only be a 5 minute wait time for any entries signed up. Class will close after the 5 minutes. Please plan accordingly.
  • Dress Code All compeitors are to wear an approved helmet and appropriate riding boots. Competitive show clothes and braiding are not mandatory, appropriate schooling clothing should be worn.  Shirts are to have a sleeve.
  • Festive Dress Code It is encouraged to participate in the themed dress day at participating shows.  Appropriate clothing please.
  • Small 2’6 & 2’9 Hunter Divisions which are for horses that stand over 14.2 hands but not above 15.3 hands. Distances will be set a shorter than in the Large Hunters (over 15.3hh).  Ponies are allowed to show in either class.

    NEW CAMPBELL HORSE SHOW RULE:
  • Refusals After 1st refusal, coach may enter ring.  After the 2nd refusal you may proceed with the course.  After the 3rd refusal you are excused from your round. You may jump a jump you have already successully jumped without judges permission.  If all 3 refusals are at the first jump, you may try 1 more time.
